OPPO A6x 5G Review: Performance, Features, Pricing & Buying Guide

My younger sister needed a phone for college. Budget was strict somewhere around ₹12,000 to ₹14,000, needed 5G, needed good battery because she commutes long hours, and didn’t need anything fancy. I spent a few days comparing options and kept coming back to the OPPO A6x 5G. Bought her the 6GB + 128GB variant about three months ago. Here’s what we’ve found.

Who This Phone Is Actually For

Before getting into the specifics this phone has a clear purpose and it matters to understand that before buying. The A6x 5G is built for people who need their phone to last all day, make calls, run WhatsApp and social media reliably, and not require constant charging. It is not built for gaming, camera quality, or impressive displays. If you know that going in you won’t be disappointed. If you’re expecting a budget phone that punches above its weight in every category you’ll find the trade-offs frustrating.

Battery The Main Reason to Choose This

6500mAh is a genuinely large battery. My sister leaves home at 8am and gets back around 8pm. During that time she’s on WhatsApp constantly, uses Google Maps for navigation, watches some YouTube during breaks, and attends online classes when needed. She charges every other night. Not every night every other night.

That’s the real-world result of 6500mAh. It changes the relationship you have with your phone. She’s stopped carrying a power bank which she used to carry daily with her previous phone. That’s a practical lifestyle change that the battery spec delivers on.

Display Be Realistic About This

The HD+ panel at 256 PPI is the most obvious compromise on this phone. Text is readable but not sharp. Images look acceptable but not crisp. If you put it next to a Redmi Note 14 with its Full HD panel the difference is visible the Redmi looks noticeably clearer.

But I want to be honest: if you’re someone who cares about display quality, Redmi and Realme both offer Full HD panels in this price range and they look better.

The large 6.75-inch screen size makes content easier to read and navigate even if the resolution is lower. For someone reading a lot of text or watching videos at a distance the size compensates somewhat for the sharpness limitation.

Performance Stable, Not Impressive

The Dimensity 6300 with 6GB RAM handles daily tasks without drama. WhatsApp, Chrome, YouTube, Instagram, Spotify playing in the background, switching between apps all smooth. No random freezes, no crashes in three months of use.

Android 15 runs cleanly on this hardware. OPPO hasn’t loaded it with heavy customizations that slow it down. The software feels responsive and predictable.

Gaming is where the limits show. BGMI and Free Fire run but not at high settings. Casual games puzzles, card games, lighter titles work fine. If gaming is a priority this isn’t the right phone. If gaming is occasional and casual it’s manageable.

The dedicated memory card slot is worth highlighting specifically. Many phones in this range use a hybrid slot where adding a memory card means removing one SIM. The A6x has a proper dedicated slot two SIMs and a memory card simultaneously. For students managing storage alongside dual SIM use this is genuinely practical.

Camera Basic and Honest About It

13MP rear camera, 5MP front. Daylight photos are acceptable social media quality, good enough for WhatsApp and Instagram stories. Details are present, colors look reasonable, nothing to complain about for casual documentation of daily life.

Low light is where it falls apart as expected. Evening indoor shots get grainy and soft. Night mode helps slightly but doesn’t transform the results. My sister doesn’t take many night photos so this hasn’t been a practical issue for her.

The front camera handles video calls adequately. For someone doing online classes or frequent video calls it works without complaints from the other side.

Redmi phones at similar prices have better camera systems more megapixels, better processing, better night mode results. If camera quality is high on your priority list the OPPO A6x is the wrong choice.

5G Connectivity

5G works where coverage exists. In areas with 5G rollout the browsing and streaming speeds are noticeably faster than 4G. For a phone you’ll use for two to three years, having 5G built in means you’re covered as networks expand without needing to upgrade just for connectivity.

Price Which Variant Makes Sense

Three variants available in India. The 4GB + 64GB between ₹10,000 and ₹12,000. The 4GB + 128GB between ₹12,000 and ₹13,500. The 6GB + 128GB between ₹14,000 and ₹15,000.

I’d skip the 4GB + 64GB unless budget is very tight 64GB fills up quickly with apps, photos, and WhatsApp media and you’ll be managing storage constantly. Between the two 128GB variants the ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 extra for 6GB RAM is worth it for smoother multitasking over the phone’s lifespan. We went with the 6GB + 128GB and it was the right call.

Versus Redmi and Realme at Similar Prices

Redmi phones in the ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 range generally offer better displays, better cameras, and similar or slightly better performance. If those factors matter more to you than battery life, Redmi is the stronger choice in that price band.

The OPPO A6x wins specifically on battery capacity 6500mAh versus the 5000mAh typical of Redmi competitors and on IP64 dust and water resistance which most competitors lack at this price. If battery endurance and practical durability are your priorities the OPPO A6x makes sense. If display and camera quality matter more look at the Redmi Note 14 or Realme alternatives.

Three Months In

My sister is happy with it. She’s never run out of battery during a day which was her main requirement. The phone handles everything she actually uses it for. She hasn’t complained about the display because she wasn’t comparing it to anything better. The IP64 survived two rain incidents without drama.
