Google Pixel 10 5G Review: Should You Buy this over Samsung and iPhone?

I’ve been a Samsung user for six years. Every two years, new Samsung, same story beautiful hardware, decent camera, gradually slowing software. When my Galaxy S23 started showing the usual lag patterns eighteen months in I decided to try something different. Bought the Pixel 10 three months ago. Here’s what switching actually felt like.

Why People Choose Pixel Over Samsung or iPhone

It’s worth being direct about this because Pixel isn’t the obvious choice at ₹70,000 to ₹75,000. Samsung offers more hardware for the money in some areas. iPhone offers a more established ecosystem. So why Pixel?

Three reasons come up consistently: the camera software, the clean Android experience, and software updates. If any of those three things matter to you specifically Pixel makes a compelling case. If none of them matter and you want the biggest display or the most powerful raw specs, look elsewhere.

The Camera What Google’s Photography Actually Does

The rear camera is 50MP with wide and ultra-wide lenses. On paper that sounds similar to many competitors. In practice the difference is in how Google processes the images.

Pixel cameras don’t just capture light they use the Tensor chip to analyze scenes, recognize what you’re shooting, and make dozens of micro-adjustments before saving the photo. The result is images that look natural and well-exposed without the artificial skin smoothing or oversaturation that Samsung tends to apply. Photos from my Pixel look like what I actually saw. Photos from my old Samsung sometimes looked like a slightly enhanced version of what I saw.

Night Sight is genuinely impressive. Low-light indoor shots that would have been grainy and dark on my Samsung come out bright, detailed, and natural-colored. Not artificially brightened actually good. I took photos at a family dinner last month in dim restaurant lighting and every person was clearly recognizable without the shot looking like a horror movie still or an over-processed mess.

Astrophotography mode requires a stable surface or tripod and a few minutes of exposure but the results actual star photos from a smartphone still feel slightly magical even knowing how it works.

The 20× digital zoom is impressive for its range but loses detail at maximum zoom as expected. Practical zoom up to about 8× produces usable results. Beyond that it’s for emergency documentation rather than quality photography.

The 10.5MP front camera handles selfies and video calls better than the megapixel count implies. Skin tones are accurate and the exposure handles backlighting better than most front cameras.

The Display Sharp and Comfortable, Not Flashy

The 6.3-inch OLED at 460 PPI and 120Hz is an excellent screen that doesn’t try to impress you with oversaturation. Text is sharp at this pixel density. Colors look accurate rather than vivid. The 120Hz makes everything feel fluid.

Samsung’s displays are brighter and more saturated they pop more in a showroom comparison. Whether that’s better depends on whether you want your photos to look like what you shot or like an Instagram filter. For someone who uses their phone for a lot of reading, dark mode feels genuinely comfortable on this OLED true black rather than the near-black that LCD panels produce.

The 6.3-inch size is worth noting. This is a compact flagship in a market that’s drifted toward 6.7 and 6.8-inch screens. One-handed use is comfortable. Fits in a jeans pocket without a noticeable bulge. If phone size has been frustrating you this is one of the few flagships that doesn’t require a large hand.

Software The Most Underrated Reason to Buy a Pixel

Android 16 with no manufacturer skin on top. This is what makes Pixel feel fast and stay fast. My old Samsung had OneUI which added features I used maybe 10 percent of and added visual complexity throughout. The Pixel just runs Android the way Google designed it clean, fast, predictable.

Google guarantees seven years of OS and security updates for the Pixel 10. A phone bought today will receive major Android updates through 2032. That changes the calculus on value. A ₹70,000 phone that stays current for seven years costs less annually than a ₹50,000 phone that slows down after three.

The AI features built into the Pixel experience are worth mentioning specifically. Call Screen screens spam calls before they reach you and transcribes what the caller says so you can decide whether to answer. Live Translate handles real-time language translation in calls and conversations. These feel like actually useful tools rather than demo features that nobody uses in practice.

Performance Tensor Has a Specific Purpose

The Tensor chip doesn’t top benchmark charts against Snapdragon 8 Elite or Apple A18. Google isn’t optimizing for benchmark performance they’re optimizing for AI task efficiency, photography processing speed, and power consumption. In daily use this means everything feels fast and responsive without the phone running warm, which was a noticeable improvement over my previous Samsung.

12GB RAM with 256GB storage is adequate for all practical use cases. I’ve never felt memory-constrained in three months of use. Multitasking between many apps simultaneously works without apps reloading from scratch.

Heavy gaming will push Tensor’s limits more than Snapdragon would. If gaming is a significant part of your phone use, Snapdragon-based phones handle sustained gaming loads better. For everything else daily the Tensor chip handles it without drama.

Battery Practical All-Day Performance

4970mAh with up to 24 hours claimed battery life. In practice moderate use days I end at 30-40% before charging overnight. Heavy days involving navigation, camera, and continuous social media I end around 15-20%. It’s a reliable all-day battery that charges to full in about 70 minutes.

Not as impressive as the 6500mAh and 7000mAh batteries in the budget phones reviewed separately, but those phones also can’t match this camera system or software experience. At this price point you’re not compromising on battery you’re just not getting the extreme two-day battery that budget-focused phones optimize for.

Pixel 10 gives you the best camera computational photography of the three, the cleanest Android experience, seven years of guaranteed updates, and AI features that are actually useful in daily life. Best for Android users who want a camera-focused flagship without manufacturer bloatware.

Between ₹70,000 and ₹75,000. Available on Amazon and Flipkart Amazon tends to have slightly better pricing or availability. Single SIM in India which is worth confirming if dual SIM is important for your use case.

Three Months In

I haven’t once wished I’d bought a Samsung instead, which is a genuine statement given six years of Samsung loyalty. The camera improvements alone justified the switch. The clean software is something I notice positively every day. The compact size suits my preference for one-handed use.

It’s not the phone for everyone. But for someone who specifically values camera quality, clean software, and long-term update reliability over maximum hardware specs the Pixel 10 is the clearest choice in the market right now.
