That’s a price point where buyers have real choices and where vague claims about “flagship performance” don’t cut it. So let me be specific about what this phone actually delivers and where the trade-offs are.

The 165Hz Display The Feature You Notice Every Day

Most high-end phones run 120Hz displays. The OnePlus 15 runs at 165Hz and the difference is visible. Not dramatically visible you won’t gasp but once you use it for a week and then pick up a 120Hz phone, the 120Hz feels slightly less fluid. OxygenOS 16 on Android 16 is genuinely clean. OnePlus has historically been praised for keeping the software close to stock Android with minimal bloatware. Compared to Samsung’s One UI which has more features but also more visual complexity, OxygenOS feels lighter and more responsive. Whether that suits you is a preference question One UI has features some people rely on that OxygenOS doesn’t emphasize.

The 50MP primary sensor with two secondary cameras produces good results. Daylight photos are sharp and detailed. The 32MP front camera handles selfies and video calls well.

8K video recording capability is listed prominently. In practice very few people have displays that can actually show 8K content and 8K files are very large. It’s a future-proofing spec more than a daily use feature. 4K at 60fps is what most users will actually use and that performs well.

Where cameras at this price range differentiate is low-light performance and computational photography. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 and iPhone 16 Pro have more mature camera systems with more computational processing behind them and wider software support for their camera ecosystems. The OnePlus 15 camera is good genuinely good but it’s not the reason to choose this phone over Samsung or Apple if cameras are your primary deciding factor.

The Honest Comparison to Samsung and iPhone

Samsung Galaxy S25 gives you a more refined camera system, Samsung’s deep ecosystem integration with other Samsung devices, and Samsung Pay’s widespread acceptance. The phone is lighter and thinner. Software support track record is strong.

iPhone 16 gives you Apple’s ecosystem, iMessage, AirDrop, the most consistent long-term software updates in the industry, and the best resale value. If you’re already invested in Apple products the switching cost is real.

OnePlus 15 gives you the highest refresh rate display in this comparison, significantly more battery capacity, competitive raw performance, and cleaner Android software. The price undercuts both Samsung and Apple at comparable spec levels.

The honest summary: if you’re deep in either the Samsung or Apple ecosystem, switching costs probably outweigh what the OnePlus 15 offers. If you’re coming from an Android phone and don’t have strong ecosystem ties the OnePlus 15’s battery advantage and display smoothness at its price point make a compelling case.
