KENT Crown Plus-B RO Review: Does It Really Provide Better Purification and Taste?

Water quality in our area changed about two years ago when they started mixing borewell supply with municipal water. The TDS jumped from around 180 to over 450 and you could taste the difference slightly salty, slightly metallic. We’d been managing with boiled water and buying 20-litre cans but the can situation was getting tedious and expensive. Last year we finally installed the KENT Crown Plus-B RO and here’s what a year of daily use looks like.

Why We Chose KENT Over Aquaguard and Pureit

We compared all three seriously before buying. The decision came down to three things the TDS controller, service network in our city, and the transparent tank.

The TDS controller matters more than most reviews explain clearly. RO membranes are very good at removing dissolved salts but they remove minerals too calcium, magnesium, the things that make water taste natural. If you drop TDS too low the water tastes flat and slightly unpleasant, almost like distilled water. KENT’s adjustable TDS controller lets the technician set an output TDS that retains minerals while removing harmful dissolved solids. Our outlet runs at around 85 TDS which tastes natural and clean.

Pureit models at this price point often don’t offer adjustable TDS control. Aquaguard does but the service costs in our city are higher and parts felt more proprietary when we asked around. KENT’s service network responded within two days when we called with a pre-installation question which felt like a good sign.

The transparent tank is genuinely practical. One glance tells you if there’s enough water for morning tea without opening anything or lifting the tank to feel its weight.

    Installation and Setup

KENT sent a technician within a day of purchase. Installation took about an hour wall mounting, inlet connection, drain pipe setup, initial flush and TDS calibration. The technician measured our inlet TDS, ran the first batch through, measured the output, and adjusted the TDS controller until the output was in the recommended range. He explained the filter change schedule and left his number for follow-up questions.

One year later and we’ve needed to call him once for a filter cleaning reminder that the purifier’s indicator flagged. He came within two days. That service experience matters for something you use daily.

Water Quality What We Actually Notice

The metallic taste is gone completely. The water tastes clean and slightly mineral not flat, not heavy, just right. We stopped buying the 20-litre cans within the first week because frankly the purifier water tastes better than what was in them.

Tea tastes better. Coffee tastes better. These are subjective things but the whole family noticed without being prompted. Water quality affects everything you cook or drink with it and going from 450 TDS tap water to 85 TDS purified water is a meaningful difference that you taste daily.

The 9-litre tank handles our family of four comfortably. Morning rush everyone making chai, filling water bottles, cooking the tank stays ahead of demand. The 20 litres per hour purification rate refills it fast enough that we’ve never found it empty during the day.

RO + UV + UF What the Combination Actually Does

RO membrane handles dissolved solids removes salts, heavy metals, fluorides. UV kills bacteria and viruses that the RO might miss. UF provides additional filtration for physical particles. The three together cover essentially every water quality concern in Indian municipal or borewell supply.

The TDS controller then blends a controlled amount of the pre-RO water back in to restore mineral content. It sounds complicated but in practice it’s a calibrated system that you set once and forget.

    Maintenance One Year In

The filter change indicator told us it was time for service around the 10-month mark. Our inlet TDS is moderately high which is on the earlier end of the 8 to 12-month range. Filter replacement cost through KENT’s service reasonable and covered under the AMC plan we took.

Daily maintenance is non-existent. The purifier runs automatically, maintains the tank, and alerts when service is needed. Outside of the scheduled filter change we’ve done nothing.

    Price

Between ₹19,000 and ₹22,000 on Amazon, Flipkart, and through KENT’s own website and authorized dealers. Installation is typically free within city limits. The Annual Maintenance Contract for subsequent years covers filter changes and service calls for a fixed annual cost worth taking for predictable maintenance budgeting.

Don’t pay above ₹22,000 for the standard model. If quoted higher without extended warranty included, compare prices online before agreeing.

    One Year In Worth It?

We stopped buying water cans, the water tastes genuinely better than what we were buying, and maintenance has been completely straightforward. For a family dealing with high TDS borewell or mixed supply water yes, the KENT Crown Plus-B delivers on its promises consistently. The TDS controller and service network are the two things that differentiate it and both have held up over a year of real use.
